  5. Pastor Bugsy Malone (in the center)knew how to expand his territory when it came to Church activities. The membership always grew in relationship to the amount of money in the jackpot.

  7. Trying to be more relevant, Mark Driscoll decided to bring in some new measures.

  8. Ok, what's the deal with everyone knocking Mars Hill? I understand that the Bell dude is off track, but what about Driscoll? I love the guy's sermons.
They're from the same clan, not so?

  9. Jansie,

Mark Driscoll's Mars Hill Church is totally separate from Rob Bell's Mars Hill "community" (or whatever they are calling it). Driscoll is in Seattle, Bell is in Michigan. Driscoll's doctrine is basically orthodox and sound, though he's got a bit of an edge. Bell is .... well, you know.

Some folks are uptight about Driscoll because he's known as the "cussing pastor" who tells dirty jokes in his sermons (or used to, at least). Many who would largely agree with him on doctrine have issues with his apparent worldliness or lack of discretion.

I'm not taking sides here, just reporting the news.

  12. Thanks for clearing that up Derek. I know Driscoll's been referred to as the cussing preacher, but I've not heard a sermon of his where he's cussed. If he belongs to Jesus, he's growing. I dig his simple outlook on the Scriptures. Simple, but not simplistic.
As for the Bell character, well, it's sad to see his stance.

  13. Whatever else Mark Driscoll has done, he has certainly been used by God to get a lot of young men energized about the Gospel and good theology. And he's leading a doctrinally sound mega church (which is almost an oxymoron) - in Seattle of all places! I'd bet he's learned from his mistakes and is indeed growing.

  14. What's wrong with a little tithe gambling if the majority of the loot goes to the local church?

  15. Yeah, Benney Finney is right! Oh, wait...

  16. Tired of preaching sermons on Old Testament tithing and New Testament giving Pastor Hinn decided to skip all religious pretenses and get the people to donate to the cause the same way they support local schools.
