To Set the Record Straight

I want to clear the air once and for all. I never agreed with the Civil War. There was nothing civil about it! I have always believed things could have been settled in a more civilized manner. I'm glad it's over.

  2. First off - It was the war of Northern Aggression and we'er just restin.

Corky is not there but his relative Powder Flask is there on the right. His friends called him John 6.

  4. Good one Jamie - I thought they could be related. Corky's alter ego and his girlfriend - Romans 9 and Ephesians 1 sure make a holy alliance with John 6!

  5. What has Mr. Duncan to do with the War of Northern Aggression?

I was glad to see that there are other Confederates here, Mr. Jamie. Even though by blood I am a Rebel Yankee...........
I rarely disclose that information. But I can't drain that Yankee blood. ;)

  6. "What's so civil about war anyway?"

I'm reading about the Civil War (or, one of the other titles) in history. Very interesting.

  7. There seem to be more southerners here than I would have guessed. Hey, y'all!

Sorry to say that my kinsman, General John Pemberton, had to surrender Vicksburg. But I can say that the Northern line of my family were pacifists and don't seem to have joined their Northern neighbors in their quest for economic dominance over the south. All in all, I am terribly glad that the people held in slavery were freed as a result of the whole ordeal.

Now, if we can only hang tight and let the North tax themselves to death without doing the same thing to ourselves, maybe we'll rise again - on better terms. Yet all as the Lord wills.

  8. It is interesting to me that the Federal Government prohibited the Confederate Government from doing what the 13 colonies had done just some 85 years prior. Is it not then true that what is good for the gander really is not good for the goose?

  9. I'm enjoying this thread. One site that has been of great benefit to me (and it's written by a Calvinist!!!) is this one
And this is a great quote from the offender himself.
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union."
Ol' Lincoln said that. Now, the Civil War is a very touchy subject for many individuals. Many of the Rebels are diametrically opposed to anything Lincoln, and while I am a strong supporter of the Confederate side (I’m an unusual Yankee), I will say that there are many things Lincoln did that were positive. He was not as solid as Stonewall Jackson, but he was not completely evil.
    Just mostly.
And that’s my history lesson to myself today. ;)
