Home is Where the Heart is

What city or town do you consider home?
Name a few places where you have lived.
If you live somewhere away from home, what do you miss the most?

  1. I originally grew up about three miles outside of Luther, Iowa (Google Map it; you'll find it). Since then, I've lived in Cedar Falls, IA; Burlington, IA; Deerfield, IL; Vernon Hills, IL; Highland Park, IL; Polk City, IA; Fargo, ND; Council Bluffs, IA; Altoona, IA; and currently in Rochester, MN. All of these have been at least one year residencies (or longer).

  2. Man, you move around more than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs!

  3. Raised in, now living in, and raising our boys in Ozawkie, KS. When my wife and I were away at college in Springfield, MO, I didn't plan on ever being back here, but that's not what the Lord was planning.

BTW,when I was younger and dating my someday-wife, I could easily convince her friends that I was from Ozawkie JAPAN...

  4. Eddie,

I consider Charleston, SC home but I live in Miami, FL... ;-).

Thanks for what you do Eddie. I get a bunch of enjoyment from reading your humor stuff.

  5. I was raised in Dalhart, TX. I attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and graduate school in Galveston, TX. I moved to Beaverton, OR, then back to Galveston and now live in Bartlesville, OK.

I miss family and friends in Texas the most. I also miss the hiking and other outdoor activities that were available while I was living in Oregon. It's beautiful up there but so far from home and so expensive.

  6. I grew up in Denham Springs La...a suburb of Baton Rouge. I miss most my family and the small town that it was when I grew up.It is now part of the URBAN SPRAWL and many strangers and no longer has that small town feel where everyone knew everyone else and were possible kinfolks.
My second hometown is New Orleans, La where I have spent most of my adult life and still have many friends. Thirdly, I live in Houston TX which is my third hometown and where I am living for a second time after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans! There is no place like my THREE (3) hometowns and I love them all for varies reasons which are beyond words.

  7. Gerry, Houston is where I was born and raised. Lived on the north side until 12 years of age, then moved to the south side.
I have lived in Humble, Conroe, Georgetown, Texas...Mabank, Kemp, Gun Barrel City, Texas. Mesquite and McKinney, Texas. Bad Nauheim, Germany (while in the Army) and now Salmiya, Kuwait.

  8. Okay, here's my list, in order:

    Ancon Canal Zone, Panama
    Fort Meade, Maryland (D.C. area)
    Honolulu, Hawaii
    Del Rey Oaks, California
    Allentown, Pennsylvania
    Clinton, Massachusetts
    Copperas Cove, Texas
    Anchorage, Alaska
    Palmyra, Pennsylvania
    Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania
    Barrington, Rhode Island
    North Providence, Rhode Island
    Johnston, Rhode Island
    Woonsocket, Rhode Island
    Dry Ridge, Kentucky
    Crittenden, Kentucky
    Florence, Kentucky
    Port Orange, Florida
    Middleburg, Florida
    Orange Park, Florida

Dad was in the Army. I call wherever I happen to be "home," but most of the relatives are from PA. I miss Alaska the most.

  9. I've been everywhere, man.

  10. I live in LA (Lower Alabama), in the same city I always have.

Home sometimes looks real sweet, though.

  11. From an English fan: Born Oxford, grew up in nearby Witney, Exeter Uni,one year Germany, brief spells Cumbria,Northamptonshire,Wales,Northumberland, SW Scotland, back to Exeter, settled in Whitehaven, West Cumbria fifteen years ago. Oh, and one year out in Papua New Guinea 9 years ago!- Still have a heart for Exeter... Any other UK readers out there?

  12. It's in interesting question for us. I grew up in Sheffield, in the north of England, but moved to the Midlands to study. Met my wife in London and we eventually moved to her hometown of Singapore.
From there we moved to Sydney where we are now. As we go through discussions with a mission organisation they have helpfully urged us to nominate one place as a home base, especially for the sake of our children.

  13. Grants Pass, Or(home of the caveman); Berkley, CA; Seattle, WA; Kirkland, WA; Bothell, WA(seaplane capital of the world)and Bakersfield, CA

I miss the small town I grew up in. Seeing people you knew everyday, knowing who to go to for help in any situation and of course memories.

  14. Happen to be Mr. Ellery's neighbor. We are from Washington, about 40 minutes roughly from the locations he mentioned. ;) I've been to all the places he mentioned.

  15. Although I have traveled some, I have kept typical homes. I lived in Greenville, Ohio in my early childhood and have lived in Statesville, NC, for most of the rest of my life. But I had a more exotic sojourn while I was in the Marines. I was deployed for a time to Saudi Arabia where I lived in al Jubail and al Kabrit, not far from the Kuwaiti border.

  16. Born in Port Elizabeth.
    Raised in Uitenhage.
    Live in Jeffreys Bay.
Would LOVE to live in Cape Town. Cape Town is magical. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity.

  17. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!

Born and bred in Tasmania. I am now living in Geelong which is about an hour south west of Melbourne.

Sounds like a lot of people who read CC have been to many exciting places!

  18. @Patience

You're an Aussie? That makes us arch-enemies!

(In this case, non-threatening, Christian family type arch-enemies)

  19. @ Jansie

    Along the dusty Winnemucca road
    When along came a semi
With a high and canvas covered load
"If you're going to Winnemucca, Mack
    With me you can ride."
So I climbed into the cab
And then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road
With so much dust and sand
    And I said,
"Listen, Bud I've traveled every road in this here land."

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
