"That's where everyone thinks you're from anyway!"
LOL*. Loved it.
Two of our **federation's ministers recently traveled to Europe to visit the Reformed church in Milan, Italy. Then, they went to Armenia to investigate the situation there, as far as the true Gospel is concerned. (Both ministers are of Armenian descent: Janbasian and Kaloostian). They reported back to us that there was no evidence of even one Reformed pastor "on the ground" in that country.
I take that as a call to pray that the Gospel of pure Grace will extend into Armenia.
*LOL. I love Dilbert, but I could never be a "Bwahahahahaha" kind of a guy.
But wait! The spell checker on Mozilla SAYS that "Arminian" should be "Armenian." It has the squiggly red underlining and everything. Doesnt that show that the two can be switched and still be right?
A few years ago I had a conversation with a man about differences among Christians, specifically the role that our works play in our salvation. He said, "Well Craig, Calvinists and Arminians each present good reasons for their beliefs. But we can't know for sure in this life. 'Now, we know in part,' but in heaven 'we will know even as we are known.' " (Paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 13:12)
I agreed with him that we will know clearly in heaven, but then looked him straight in the eye and added "But in heaven everyone will be Calvinists," and then I quoted Revelation 7:9 & 10.
The expression on his face was priceless. Obviously, he had never encountered anything like this stranger before. After several seconds of awkward silence, I smiled and winked, then gave him a friendly "punch" on the shoulder. Nothing more was said. -----------------------
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" (Rev. 7:9-10 esv)

ReplyDeleteBahahaha! In our theologically illiterate generation that is so true. Funny stuff.
Um, so Arminian and Armenian are two different things? Always? Uh-oh! Its going to cost me a lot to have all those address labels re-printed.

ReplyDelete@Jake: Hey, my spell-checker does that, too! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll go . . . but only if I can choose to come back again whenever I feel like it.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Calvinia?
ReplyDeleteWhere are we from then?
ReplyDelete@CG: The Bible.
ReplyDeleteMichael, you could not have given a better answer!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the readers can come up with a good acronym for the five points using "BIBLE"...
...here's one from the top of my head"...
Born Bad
Irresistible Grace
Believer Endures
Limited Atonement
Election is Unconditional
