This is a clip from the 1938 film, Swiss Miss. Although this film is far from their best, the idea of Stan and Ollie delivering a piano over a rickety bridge suspended over a bottomless chasm, always struck me funny. The gorilla starts swinging the bridge side to side until the rope bridge breaks, and the piano and gorilla are seen falling into a bottomless cavern. At the end of the film, when all seems well and Laurel and Hardy are leaving the village, the gorilla appears, bandaged up and on crutches. The boys go into hysterics and run take out running. (I'm going on a faulty memory here) ..even though Laurel and Hardy are now a quarter of a mile away, the gorilla throws one of his crutches and and beans them on the head.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you explained why they were carrying a piano across a suspension bridge with a gorilla. I wanted to ask but it seemed rude for some reason.
