Fan Photo from Winslow Schott

enlarge for detail

Thanks to Mr. Winslow Schott who sent us this old toy set. We here at Calvinistic Cartoons were not aware of this product that sold in toy stores in the 1954. Even Mr. Eddings had no idea this had taken place. He told us he would travel back to 1953 and visit the creator of this marvelous work.
We Googled Mr. Schott's name and have decided not to send the usual $7,000 gift. We sent cookies instead.

Member (dis) Member

Throughout the life of this blog, members have joined and suddenly disappeared. I check my blog daily and I am always thrilled when someone joins CC. Yesterday I had 351 members - now it's down to 349.
I used to think someone out there was murdering Calvinists (I have posted about that elsewhere on this blog). But now, I have come to believe that Arminians, who don't know they're Arminians, join this blog wanting some humor in their lives. They don't know the difference between Calvinism and Arminianism - they just see the word "Cartoons" and jump in feet first. As they scroll down, examine the archives and read the comments, they come to the realization that they are allergic to TULIPS and quickly rip out their membership!
If you are a Calvinistic blogger - has this ever happened to you? Do you have another theory?

Anesthesiologist, Parker Tipton, while digging a grave, in his backyard, for his dead pet emu, discovered this remarkable skeleton of Tweety. Upon further research, he found out that his home had once been owned by Granny Foray, who also owned a black and white cat named Sylvester and a bulldog named Hector. Stopping CC for a While

As much as I have enjoyed CC and as much as many of you have enjoyed CC, I am putting on the brakes, so to speak, for a few months. I don't know if I can hold out that long, to be honest with you. CC has become an obsession with me as of late. I think about it too much. It not good for my health, in many ways. Problem is, CC has become more than a past time - it has become an addiction. People give up things for various reasons - years ago, I had to stop, cold turkey, playing a computer game called "City of Heroes", because it dominated my life to the point where I was not studying and reading the Word like I should. So I put a stop to it and never returned. This is why I am putting a stop to CC for a undetermined length of time. Coca-Cola will no longer be my main soft drink. I am switching to a drink with vitamin C - probably an Orange or Grape drink for a while. I will return to CC in the future, but for now, I will be stopping, cold turkey!

Atheist Comic Discovered

This 1944 comic book indicated that there had been eight issues previously published by the Godless Atheists of America Publishing Company in Braindead, Minnesota. This was a lie. Only one issue circulated, making the public believe it was number nine. No one knows the reasoning here. The publisher, Matty Dumas, later told the press to mind their own business. "No one can tell me what I should or shouldn't do!" he screamed before throwing himself out of a one story building.

Buni by Ryan Pagelow

Ryan Pagelow has graciously allowed me to post a few of his comic strip panels. I think his work is hilarious and feeds some of my "Far Side" cravings since Gary Larson left the comic scene years ago. If you want to read more adventures of Buni by Ryan Pagelow click HERE. Some of these strips had me laughing so hard I may have had a mild stroke.

10 Things "Posted" on Facebook

I've learned so much from my mistakes, I'm thinking of making a few more.

Whoa! Thank you warning label! I was actually considering using my new floor lamp in the shower.

In a thousand years, archeologists will dig up tanning beds and think we fried people as punishment

If Bill Gates had a penny for every time I had to reboot my computer...oh wait, he does

Whenever you’re bored send this text to a random number.. “I hid the body.”

If you never jumped from couch to couch as kid to avoid the lava, then you missed out on childhood.

Our house isn’t dirty, we just have everything on display like a museum.

I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me 92,748 times, you are a weather person.

I just read a list of “100 things to do before you die”. And, I’ve got to say that I’m pretty surprised “yell for help” wasn’t one of them.

Secular Saturday Sing-a-long

Lyrics:
There's nothing else I'd rather do
Than to sit around and talk to you
And reminice about a simpler time
The music that we made
Was simple but it stayed
In my memory and
On my mind

Dancin' on daddy's shoes
Dancin' all around the room
Rollin' the rug up
kickin' our heels up
Dancin' away the blues
Sister would clap along
Everyone would sing a song
Playin' homemade music
dancin' on daddy's shoes

There's something bout this musty room
That makes me reel and it
Makes me swoon
That strange perfume is one of a kind
The rhythm takes me back
When I hear that rap-pa-tap
There's no nicer feeling that I can find

Dancin' on daddy's shoes
Memories you'll never loose
Dancin' away the blues
Sentimental memories
Dancin' on daddy' shoes

Dancin' on daddy' shoes

Dancin' on daddy's shoes
Dancin' all around the room
Rollin' the rug up
kickin' our heels up
Dancin' away the blues
Sister would clap along
Everyone would sing a song
Playin' homemade music
dancin' on daddy's shoes

Oh, dancin' on daddy's shoes

Julia Stiles, The Bell Jar and Donald Grey Barnhouse

Few know that The Bell Jar, which will star Julia Stiles, has a character named Dr. Nolan, who in reality was Dr. Ruth Tiffany Barnhouse, the daughter of Donald Grey Barnhouse. The 2012 movie is supposedly truer to the semi-autobiographical novel than the 1979 film.
Here is a lengthy, but interesting link that interviews Ruth Barnhouse and sheds some information on her father as well. The information on DGB is not all that flattering, so be aware, if he is one of your heroes. Heroes have clay feet sometimes.
I have always loved reading Donald Grey Barnhouse. His four volume set on Romans is with me right now.

Former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, who attended the Tenth Presbyterian Church for more than twenty years, said of Barnhouse: "His authoritative voice held my attention, his physical appearance was arresting, and his preaching was teaching of the highest intellectual order ... I always marveled at the simplicity of the faith of this very intelligent and learned man."
