A few clues for you to use:
This male actor's real name was Whipple. The name Whipple was given in honor of an ancestor on his father's side, William Whipple of New Hampshire, who had co-signed the Declaration of Independence. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, in 1949, and went on to attend Blinn Junior College on a football scholarship. Having been raised in a devout Christian home, he studied one semester at Dallas Bible Institute before joining the Army.
He rejected several film offers because the scripts contained unnecessary foul language, exploited sex, or gruesome violence and he settled down to a family life. He finally chose to put the film industry behind him and joined the ministry under Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel.

ReplyDeleteBronco Layne and his "Dominion Patriots" had ridden hard for six straight hours to this gunfight, and were too stiff and sore to stand upright. (The gunslinger second from left rode side-saddle.)
Back in 1997, my husband and I met this charming guy in Costa Rica. We bought a home there and spent 3 months out of the year in that tropical paradise. My husband wanted to build a home adjacent to ours for our hired man. And guess who built that home?!! No other than Ty Hardin!! At that time he had suspended his acting career and was building homes there for the Costa Rica people who by the way are delightful people!! It was a fun experience for me to have a famous actor meet with my husband often at our home for coffee and donuts to plan this building and begin the project. The house was completed just before we came back to the states and our new hired man was very happy especially since the home was built next to the soccer field fence, a sport he loved!! It was a delightful time to get to know Ty and his wife and meet with them at times for dinner. One would never know then that he was a famous Hollywood actor because he never mentioned Hollywood unless you asked him and was totally interested in his building projects. He even sold us his car while we were there which we were happy to have and then told us to move "that piece of Junk" out of the way when he came with his workers to build. He had a funny sense of humor. He spoke fluent Spanish with his help and now I have learned he is back in the States somewhere in sunny California. My husband and I have often wondered how he is doing. We wish him happiness and good health. It would be fun to have our paths cross again!!
