Pardon my Ignorance...

At the present, I am filtering comments because of a certain person who targeted me for being a Presuppositionalist in my apologetics. This James Lawson, who will remain nameless from this time forward, was becoming rather annoying with his self-righteous rants. Anyway, because of my filtering, many comments went to my Spam file...and I hardly ever check my Spam file. When I did, I tried to publish the comments by checking "not spam". That was a mistake. I deleted many at one fell swoop! I apologize for that. I hope I didn't discourage anyone. Keep commenting and I will be a little more vigilant in the future. Thank you.

  2. I don't know who James Lawson is, but 'annoying' and 'self-righteous' sounds like most of the presupp fanboys I have run into.

  3. You can ignore/delete that last comment, it was rather annoying and perhaps a bit self-righteous...

  4. It's an odd thing to take such a harsh stance on. Most committed evidentialists I know recognize the value of analyzing presuppositions, but simply disagree on the approach. Likewise, most presuppositionalists I know, myself included, recognize that evidential arguments have some necessary value although ultimately recognizing the epistemological limitations in them as addressed in the first three chapters of Romans.

Few understand the dangerous theological implications of the Thomistic synthesis which is incipient of modern evidentialism (although Aquinas applied it to what we would recognize as classical apologetics). That's not to mention the exegetical invalidity of starting with such a synthesis of the Platonic and Aristotelian philosophies prevalent among the scholastics in Aquinas' day and trying to mold the Scriptures around that framework.

  5. Thanks for your comments, RubeRad. No matter what position in apologetics or Theology, there will always be immature Christians who annoy. I know my cage-stage days have been just that. God's grace is the best solution. It would be mean-spirited for me to post criticism for someone's apologetic on their own blog and continue to pester and cry "repent" incessantly.

  6. Jim, thank you for your thoughtful post. When you boil it all down, our approach to apologetics is based on our Theological foundation. I've tried throwing evidence at my 40 year old son, who professes atheism, and having evidence hurled back.
Pray for me. On the 22nd of this month I leave for Dallas. This will be my first time using the Presuppositional approach.

  7. Will do, my friend.

The nice thing about presuppositional apologetics is that it's more than a formulaic method. Bahnsen showed us how to apply it in a debate format. Frame's writings are considerably more practical. I was able to make a practiced Muslim apologist take a step back and stand there speechless and turn and tell his disciples to treat me with respect, though it wasn't me of course that he recognized that he should respect, but the living God. He didn't come to faith then in my presence, but he at least left with a lot to think about. Eddie, I pray that God's will is for your son to be filled with the Holy Spirit and become regenerate, and I pray that it is very soon. Keep the faith, brother.
