Americans and people from the UK pronounce the city of Dubai, "Do-BYE" While Middle Easterners and the people in the UAE pronounce it, "Do-BAY". Who is right?
The way we pronounce wind and wind depends on the context. Pronounce one wrong and Ms Grammar will always correct you. I can't believe she is still teaching!
I still don't get why there is an "e" at the end of Augustine if it's supposed to be pronounced Augustin'.

It depends upon whether your American or Middle Eastern. Is it fal-aye-ful or fal-awe-ful?

ReplyDeleteMy last name is pronounced ED-dings not EE-dings. There is only one way to pronounce it correctly.
ReplyDeleteMost people have difficulty with the silent e in Whitefield than the one in Augustine. (Place smiley face here)
Whitefield vs Whit-field also confuses me but I imagined the correct pronunciation was an Old or Middle English remnant.
