Tesla Movie 2014

A new movie about Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla will be released in 2014.. Makers say that the name - Mad Scientist – reflects the fact that Tesla was a misunderstood genius – and goes by the impressive tagline:

He’s the world’s greatest inventor and you probably never heard of him.

(Note: The title has now been changed to simply "Tesla". - Eddie)

The plot starts when Tesla sets foot on American soil and follows his life until his final moments in a New York hotel room. His rivalries with Thomas Edison and JP Morgan loom large as do his friendships with with Mark Twain and George Westinghouse. In between, Tesla changes the world.

The movie’s facebook page already has several thousand Like’s – more than half from Serbs. The American production will be set in Pittsburgh and feature plenty of Serbian dialogue.

UPDATE: The leading role of Nikola Tesla himself has been cast as Diaspora-born Branko Tomović. Branko appeared in movies including The Bourne Ultimatum and Interview with a Hitman. He has been nominated for a European Film Award and was named ‘One to Watch’ by MovieScope Magazine.

Writer and director Michael Anton said,”Branko’s performance just blew us away…he is the perfect Nikola Tesla.”

“Nikola Tesla has been a great idol of mine for a very long time. It’s a very great honour to be allowed to breath life into his wonderful character and tell his remarkable story. From Fear to Favor

This rare, digitally restored full-feature cartoon features Superman, in his first animated movie (1942) where he battles a character based on Nikola Tesla, the Mad Scientist (who has a raven rather than a pigeon) . Animated by the award-winning Max and Dave Fleischer Studios of the 1940s, it demonstrates how Tesla was turned into a mad scientist by the mainstream media.

Today, he is viewed by DC comics ("DC"-ironic, isn't it) for the peace loving genius he was, as demonstrated by the comic below. 

This story offers up yet another twist to the "What if Superman had landed (where/when)...?" scenario, but still stands out as a great story to read. The premise is that the DC universe characters existed--in some form or another--during the latter decades of the 19th century. Clark Kent, sans costume or need for a secret identity, makes his debut at the Centennial Exposition in 1876, when he flies in carrying the first pieces of what would be the Statue of Liberty.

Kent's goal is to offer his strength, speed, and other talents to top scientists in order to speed up the already dizzying pace of scientific progress. He takes a job with Thomas Edison, but soon after forms a coalition with genius inventor Nikola Tesla and financial wizard Lex Luthor. It is through the progress of science and the happy accidents it sometimes breeds that his various co-workers--Ted Knight and Barry Allen--are transformed into the Starman and the Human Flash. A stranded alien later offers Clark the ring of the Green Lantern Corps, but Clark refuses it, allowing it to pass instead to Army Captain Hal Jordan.

The goal of the newly formed League of Science is to promote the use of science to help the common man. But it doesn't always work that way, particularly when the common man is the one who has to build all of it for low wages.

Toss into the mix a romantic feud between Kent and Luthor over the love of Lois Lane, Luthor's own ideas for building science-based weaponry using radium, and the betrayal by one of the other League members, and what you have is a historical superhero drama set against the backdrop of an Industrial Revolution gone horribly awry. Washington Irving

These five statements below are either true or false. Before you let your fingers run to Google, try answering these questions by yourself. Answers will be posted in a few days  Have fun and prepare to have your eyes opened.

1. Irving was the first person to refer to New York as "Gotham City".

2. In the story, Rip Van Winkle, Rip goes to sleep for twenty years.

3. Washington Irving gave us the phrase, "The almighty dollar".

4. Irving was born in London but became an American citizen twenty one years later.

5. Irving's 1828 book, A History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus, created the myth that medieval people thought the world was flat, whereas Columbus believed it was round.

Number 4 is the only false statement.

Bonus facts: In 1842, after an endorsement from Secretary of State Daniel Webster, President John Tyler appointed Irving as Minister to Spain.

The city of Irving, Texas, gives credit to Washington Irving for the town's name.

The town of Knickerbocker, Texas, was founded by two of Irving's nephews who named the town in honor of their uncle's literary pseudonym.

Only the fifth "fact" is false.

Henry Ford died in 1947 of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 83.
