Evangelism Tip

Let me tell you the reason God decrees junk mail. I used to hate all the fat envelopes sent to me each day from who knows where...until, it hit me. The postage paid envelopes that were always enclosed were tract holders! I now pick those out, throw everything else away, and stuff a Gospel tract (usually one of my own) into them and send 'em off the next day! Somebody has to open it up...and somebody is predestined to read it. A great way to plant seeds (metaphorically speaking, of course). If you don't have a tract then write a note or enclose a verse of Scripture. Anyway you look at it, you can be a missionary and it doesn't cost you a dime! Selah my bruthas.

  1. Glad to see I'm not the only one that does that. What an easy way to witness to someone we would never have met otherwise.

  2. Of course you know this is illegal but it is amusing.

If you like this idea, I have another one you are sure to love. It's called bathroom evangelism. This is a true story. Read about it here:

  3. I have to confess, Ralph...I was doing "illegal" tract-planting when I was in Kuwait City and Dubai last year. I "snuck" tracts into clothing at the malls and "planted" them in the grocery stores and marketplaces. You are not allowed to publically preach the Gospel. I have had many conversations with Muslim friends in their homes. And I have to admit it was a delight to sneak tracts into the pages of books and leave them on tables. I just like scattering seeds of Truth...and I know it doesn't replace face-to-face communication. And it's not extreme. Spurgeon told his students to always have good tracts on their person.

  4. Ralph - could you cite what law is being broken, thus making this illegal?

  5. I must be the only one that has never heard or thought of this. However, I'm really looking forward to getting some junk mail now...

  6. Nope, Dana, you're not the only one! Now I can see that my tract budget will have to dramatically increase--I get a LOT of junk mail. I can't wait to replace the dreaded paper prayer cloth with a For Your Joy booklet!

  7. My apologies; I misread the post. John Willis asked if I could cite the law.

When I first read the post I was not paying careful attention and I thought you were REusing the original envelopes. I see now that you were using the enclosed pre-posted envelopes.

That really is a clever idea. Now I am looking forward to junk mail.

John, thanks for the correction. Next time I leave a comment I'll try to read more carefully to be accurate.

That is the only mistake I have ever made.

  8. I've just started doing this in the UK - 14 so far but early days. Good suggestion, I would never have thought of it otherwise.

  9. This is from 2011--Boy do I have some catching up to do! However, it is not illegal if, when you return the envelope you include the following: Please take me off the mailing list.
Don't worry-- they won't. But it justifies sending the return mail.
