I belong to...I used to go by the name of Calvinist. I belong to a church that is largely Calvinistic. We certainly do believe the Biblical doctrine of election. I personally believe God saves whom He wishes to save (as per Romans 9). However, for numerous reasons I have decided to do away with the tag 'Calvinism'. first off, I live in a country where Calvinism could be central, but not repentance unto good works. In other words, nominal Christianity is at the order of the day. Second, some Calvinists are unknowingly hyper-Calvinists, in reality. so in practice the name of Calvin is proudly bore, but hyper-Calvinism is the practical outcome.
Third, at one stage I thought it would be sin to not be known as a Calvinist. We had a pastor who split our church, and he is a Calvinist. His Calvinism certainly does not do him any good.
Fourth, being able to say I'm not a Calvinist in discussion makes people ask questions, which can lead to me warning about the danger of hyper-Calvinism.

So, by all means, revel in your Calvinism, but let Jesus be God of all, and remember to be gentle and kind in your defense of the glorious gospel of our Lord.

I heard and really only understood for the first time last night that Jesus cannot wait to be with His bride. It brought tears to my eyes. This thought was too much for me. That perfect God could possibly long for me is just incomprehensible. His love astounds me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
